While Trial by Jury will be familiar to many of our audience, Butterfields is a brand new, with the music and story written by one of our members Paul Leach.
There is a college (Butterfields) whose mission is to take the poor and downtrodden of society and mould them into confident, happy and productive members of society. The method? To build self belief and self reliance through the arts of stage and song, and it is their end-of-year show that we start with. They need a good show to get money in for next year's programme of learning, and with Larry Butterfield and his sister Julia at the helm, it's all looking good. Until, of course, two gentlemen from the Ministry in London arrive and try to close the place down in the name of Austerity savings. They find what they believe to be failings (of which the worst is probably the fact that The College's financially generous Foundress, one Cushie Butterfield,(a) had no money for founding colleges and (b) according to them, never actually existed). And they manage to convince Larry to close the College. So - can Julia and the rest of the students change Larry's mind? And is it possible to rescue these wrong-headed Ministry types from themselves and turn them into more positive and useful people? You'll have to see the show to see how this all unfolds...any more information would spoil the ending!
