The Importance of Being Earnest or A Tale of Two Brothers

A mostly G&S musical

Whether you are a G&S fan or have never been part of a musical production before, we promise you a lot of fun if you join us for Earnest!

A number of successful local productions have used the works of Gilbert & Sullivan and other songs from a similar era to accompany either a new story (e.g. How to Marry an Aristocrat by Richard Temperley), a G&S "sequel" (e.g. Mutiny on the Pinafore, by GMS member Fraser Charlton) or a well-loved classic (e.g. Pride & Prejudice (or Several Lovesick Maidens), by GMS member Esther Cohen-Tovee).

Our Autumn 2015 show

This year, Esther Cohen-Tovee has adapted Oscar Wilde's classic comedy The Importance of Being Earnest into operetta form. Songs, duets, quartets and chorus numbers have been selected (and sometimes subtly altered) from shows such as The Mikado, HMS Pinafore, Princess Ida, The Arcadians and The Quaker Girl.

Be part of our telling of this, Oscar Wilde's best loved tale - a topsy-turvey romp through a series of misunderstandings, mistaken identities and improbable coincidences with Jack, Gwendolyn, Cecily, Algernon, Lady Bracknell and of course, Ernest...?

Earnest will be performed at Trinity Church, Gosforth on 20 & 21 November 2015, and rehearsals will be on Monday evenings with Wednesdays for principals.  Please see our rehearsal page and calendar for further details.

New and former members are warmly invited to join us for this novel production and for our main Show, Gilbert & Sullivan's Utopia Ltd, for which rehearsals will start on the same date. Please come along on 7th September, or for more information, please contact us.

Apparently this is important...
